This course will be taught by Jacob Vanderkloet: a recent graduate from the University of Calgary where he obtained a master’s degree in Greek and Roman Studies. Jacob also has an undergraduate degree with joint honours in History and Classics, a Diploma in Ancient Worlds, and a Certificate in Ancient Languages from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Jacob has a wide range of research interests in the study of antiquity including philology, comparative mythology, Greco-Roman religion, and archaeology, but his specialty is in the study of ancient Greek history and historiography.

Jacob gave a talk on Homer as part of the first Symbolic Symposium at Clockworks Academy, and we’re delighted to have him back to teach a full course.

Homer’s Odyssey is, along with the Iliad, one of the two foundational epics of Greek myth and literature. Odysseus’s journey home after the Trojan War, in which he overcomes challenges from apathy to flesh-eating monsters, has captivated readers and listeners for millennia. Now it’s your turn to discover what’s worth knowing about The Odyssey!
