 What will this talk be about?

A brief survey of the secret identity in superhero stories, from its roots in fable, to its evolution in pulp fiction, to its apotheosis and disintegration in the era of the superhero movie.

 
 
 

Dr. Reginald Wiebe specializes in Canadian, postcolonial, and graphic literature. His research mostly deals with comics, particularly with Marvel superheroes. A forthcoming research project explores the use of cancer in the construction of moral narratives in Marvel’s comics. He is also working on collections that examine the role of adaptation in the relationship between comics and television and the cultural capital of comicbook movies.
